The Science Behind Keratin Treatments
The Science Behind Keratin Treatments
One of the three women round the world visits hair salon regularly to nourish and style her hair. The routine visit to the hair salon includes services like hair cut, blow dry, hair coloring, hair styling and Keratin Treatments. For many women, the secret to smooth, shiny hair sits at the end of a keratin treatment. The de-frizzing process is more popular than ever, but what does it actually do, and how long will it last? There’s a lot of mystery surrounding keratin treatments, so we will try our best to explain the science behind the ever-popular Keratin treatment.
What is a Keratin Treatment?
To understand the science behind Keratin Treatments you need to know a little bit about hair. Hair is made of keratin. Keratin is a type of hard protein and consists of three layers; the medulla, the cortex and the cuticle. The cuticle is made of an almost see-through and tightly formed structure that looks like overlapping fish scales. The two layers hold the pigments that give the hair its color while the cuticle is the protective layer. A keratin treatment is a chemical process that smooths and shines frizzy hair. Results can last up to six months.
Keratin treatments add additional keratin to your hair that bonds with your own natural keratin to create stronger hair inside and out by ‘plugging in’ the holes in the cuticles of the hair. During a keratin treatment, smaller keratin molecules penetrate the hair cortex, improving and repairing the quality of the hair. The added strength, elasticity and moisture create a smooth, shiny, soft and straightened effect in your hair. The larger molecules of keratin coat the hair cuticle and help protect it from such potentially damaging environmental factors such as UV rays, smog and smoke. Here at Bennetts & Jackson we offer the Cezanne Premuim and Express Keratin Treatment and we can customize a blend of the formula to suit your needs. Keratin treatments dive into the hair follicle and inject porous areas with keratin, an essential hair protein. Your hair will appear healthier, because it actually is.
Do Cezanne Keratin Treatments contain formaldehyde?
Cezanne understands that stylists and clients want keratin hair smoothing treatments that heal and strengthen hair without using any harsh or toxic chemicals. That’s why all Cezanne Keratin Smoothing Treatments and aftercare products are 100% formaldehyde-free. We use a low-pH proprietary blend of ingredients, including glycolic acid, to deliver great results.
Can I DIY a Keratin Treatment at home?
Technically yes, but don’t expect Bennetts & Jackson like-results. Even if you buy an actual keratin treatment, your results won’t last as long as the salon version. Where a salon treatment can last for several months, at-home versions tend to wash out after a few weeks.
Can I still get a keratin treatment even if I colored my hair?
Yes! Unlike chemical-straightening relaxers, you can safely have both dyed hair and a keratin treatment without the risk of damage. So after your colour appointment in B&J, if you wanna have soft and smooth hair, our Cezanne Keratin Treatments are absolutely safe.
We have 2 Keratin Treatments. The first one is Express Keratin Smoothing, the second one is Premium Keratin Smoothing.
