New Year Hair Resolutions
Take out the bobby pins. Shake out the hair glitter. Wash away the excess hairspray. The holiday season has officially come to an end, and it’s time to breathe some new life into your hair. In addition to planning out your overall New Year’s resolutions, take the time this year to give these five New Year’s resolutions for your hair a chance.
From limiting heat styling to experimenting with a new hairstyle, see what the Bennetts & Jackson team is hoping to accomplish in the year ahead, and how we plan to (hopefully) get there.
Let these hair resolutions help you sparkle and shine with vibrant, healthy hair all year long!
1. Try Air-Drying Your Hair Once a Week
It may seem daunting to put down your beloved blowdryer, but trust us. It’s for the health of your hair.
The excessive heat and air pressure from your hair dryer, over time, can cause significant damage to your hair cuticles.
Can’t seem to put the hair dryer down? Try opting for a partial blowdry. The less time your hair is exposed to extreme heat, the better off it will be in the long run. You can also use our trusted go-to product, KEUNE STYLE HEAT PROTECT SPRAY.
As far as other heat styling methods go, this new year, try your best to minimize the time you spend curling or straightening your hair. Try experimenting with different no-heat hairstyles so that your hair still feels done and polished but without all of the heat damage. Your hair will thank you!
2. Be kinder to your hair
For starters, switch out the cotton bath towel for a softer micro-fiber towel and trade in a regular hairbrush for a wide-tooth comb to help prevent breakage. Also invest in a brush that really protects your hair (if you’ve got extensions). Be more diligent about applying my custom leave-in treatment to the hair before heat styling it to help prevent my strands from becoming dry and damaged. It’s all about the baby steps!
3. Make Time to Go to the Salon
Even though the busy holiday season has come to an end, that doesn’t mean that life has slowed down at all.
Between the endless work meetings and countless other obligations, it might seem impossible to take time for yourself. This new year, make a resolution to take more time for yourself—and that includes making time to go to the salon.
Few things will make you feel more like a new, vibrant you quite like a new haircut and color. Self-love and self-care is in for 2022.
4. Keep Your Hair (And Yourself) Hydrated
This is one of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions because, as we all know, drinking the right amount of water is vital to your health. Drinking water is good for flushing out toxins, helping shift excess Christmas pounds, revealing radiant skin and giving you more energy. It is also fantastic for hydrating your hair. This resolution is not only for your hair but also for your overall wellness.
You should aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, so make sure that you keep your water bottle topped up and to hand to help to keep your hair moisturised, soft and shiny.
5. Switch Up Your Hairstyle More Often
Not only will switching up your hairstyle from time to time keep your look fresh, it can also have a positive effect on the health of your hair.
Pulling your hair back into a tight ponytail every day when you hit the gym can actually end up causing what’s called “traction alopecia.” Traction alopecia is a form of hair loss that’s caused by stress on your hair follicles due to tight hair styling.
Thankfully, there are ways to avoid traction alopecia—the main way to dodge that bullet is by leaving your hair down on occasion. You can also try pulling it up in a loose bun or try using a more gentle hair tie.
In any case, it never hurts to switch things up—especially when it comes to your style! Bennetts & Jackson will help you acheieve your 2022 dream hair, while taking care of it, too!
